Academic & Legal Disclaimer
Last Updated: January 2026 • Valid for all tools, converters, and guides on GPAtoECTS.com
All calculations, grade equivalents, ECTS credit conversions, and target score solvers provided on GPAtoECTS.com are strictly non-binding informational estimates. While our algorithms strictly adhere to the Modifizierte bayerische Formel (Modified Bavarian Formula) established by the German Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK), this website is not an official certifying authority.
1. Exclusive Authority of German Universities & Uni-Assist
In accordance with German federal and state higher education legislation (Landeshochschulgesetze):
- Admission Committees (Zulassungsausschüsse): The final legal evaluation of foreign academic degrees, minimum passing scores, and admission eligibility lies exclusively with the admissions committees of each respective German university.
- Uni-Assist e.V.: For institutions participating in the uni-assist procedure, the preliminary documentation of eligibility (Vorprüfungsdokumentation - VPD) issued by uni-assist e.V. constitutes the official evaluation metric.
- Variable Passing Thresholds: Individual faculties may apply internal weighting rubrics, ignore non-academic coursework, or interpret minimum passing grades (N_min) differently based on national databases (e.g., Anabin).
2. Modified Bavarian Formula (KMK Standard)
Our conversion tool applies the mathematical formula adopted by the resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK):
Where N represents the calculated German grade, Nmax represents the maximum attainable grade, Nmin represents the lowest passing grade, and Nd represents your actual obtained grade.
Although this mathematical model is the federal benchmark across German higher education, minor variations in rounding conventions (e.g. truncated vs mathematically rounded to one decimal place) may occur across institutions.
3. Visa & Financial Information Disclaimer
Articles and comparative data regarding German student visas, blocked accounts (Sperrkonto), statutory health insurance, and embassy requirements are based on regulations published by the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Consular requirements are subject to unilateral regulatory updates. Always verify current visa deposit requirements directly with the German embassy or consulate in your home country.
4. Limitation of Liability
